On Tuesday, August 12, the 100 Ladies of Deering Marketing Committee visited RLA Galleries to view restoration of two historically significant, stained-glass panels depicting the Holy Family’s Flight Into Egypt. On Saturday, October 19th, these rare pieces of pre-17th century art went on permanent display in the Stone House at the Deering Estate.
The historic significance of these pieces cannot be overestimated, as very few stained glass representations of religious art from this period have survived centuries marked by the ravages of war, political upheavals and natural deterioration.
Acquired by Charles Deering in the early 20th century, the addition of these two stained glass panels to the Estate’s collection is expected to draw art lovers and scholars from around the globe.
